How To Draw Pop Art Heart

A Valentine’s Day Art Project is inspired by Romero Britto.  Britto is a Brazilian-born and Miami-made international artist that uses vibrant, bold and colorful patterns to reflect his optimistic view of the world around him. Britto has created a visual language of hope and happiness all its own that is inspiring to millions of people everywhere.

This is the perfect Valentine’s Day Art project was created by Deep Space Sparkle using Faber-Castell Premium Children’s Art products. It can be used in the classroom or at home with your kids. Adults and children alike will enjoy creating these colorful and inspiring hearts. Frame them or use them as cards!

WHAT YOU’LL NEED:
• Faber-Castell 9” x 12” Doodling Pad or white paper/card stock
• Faber-Castell Washable Broadline Jumbo Markers
• POP ART Art Samples (Faber-Castell Pop Art Hearts)

How to draw a Pop Heart:

• Draw sun and sun’s rays (straight lines extend off paper)
• Double up the black lines so they are thick
• Draw curved lines on bottom of paper with black marker
• Use broad tip markers to color in areas of the artwork
• Draw a large heart over and in-between the rays
• Light colors make a good color choice for large areas
• Draw patterns on white paper
• Color in stripes or polka dots over colored areas
  

How to color with markers:

Broad tip markers are the easiest markers to use to color in large shapes. This coloring approach helps children color in areas without the background paper showing through.

Color in one small area at a time—like a step—then color in the next step. Using this step or ladder approach allows children to methodically color in an area completely before moving to the next section.

Using the broad tip marker makes the process fun and fast!

Coloring Tip:
It can take a long time to color in a solid color especially if the area is large. To speed up the process and make the art interesting add patterns like squiggles, shapes, zig-zag lines or swirls over the white paper.
